address book Backup Database

Anyone else notice that if you do an Address Book "File>Backup Database", the default file name includes the date (in the MM/DD/YY format)?

And that if you try to copy this to another computer it won't let you cuz it's choking on the forward slashes?

seems like they should make the default file name be separated by hyphens instead?

nope - just tried to copy by dragging from my iBook hard drive to the shared volume (destination has been both a windows share and a G5 share with same results). As soon as I rename the file to use no /'s it's much more willing to do the copy.

not a big deal, just an odd quirk, similar to how it shouldn't be a big deal to share a non-system disk over the network without knowing lots of unix and/or dl'g a shareware accessory such as SharePoints.

Yeah, Windows computers don't like the forward-slash character in file names. Macs, on the other hand, handle it just fine. Just one, little nuisance.

The Mac Finder handles the forward slash fine - view the same file in the Terminal and you'll see that all the forward-slashes have become hyphens, i.e. MM/DD/YY in Finder becomes MM:DD:YY in Terminal. The OSX Finder is the opposite - it doesn't like the hyphen character and if you create a file in Terminal with hyphens, Finder will change them to forward-slashes.

i'm not so convinced that Finder handles it fine since as mentioned at the top, Finder wouldn't let me drag a file from one mac to another mac until I removed the forward slashes. Not a big deal but interesting.
