For some reason my address book is not launching. I tried deleting the pref file with no luck. I moved my address book out of the address book folder - still no luck. Finally I deleted the address book. Downloaded the latest update for 10.24 and extracted the address book package and installed with pacifist. The address book is still not launching and now it is missing its icon. I tried just updating the whole 10.24 updater after deleting the Address book to no avail.

Please I have run out of ideas can any one help me please>

i hope fixing the permissions will fix that.
restart the mac, while starting it hold down the "s"-key.
once it has started in the text mode, write
fsck -y
that will check the file system and fix possible broken or faulty permissions. those could be making your address book not wanting to start.
the text mode tells you what to do the next (could be that the mac will recognize only US keyboard on s-mode). then just restart.
that could hopefully fix it.

I tried restarting the mac in console mode by holding down the "s" - key with no luck. The login window just came up. So I started it in console mode by typing in the User Name field ">console". That switched me to console mode. I logged in as root and executed the following command #fsck -y
No print displayed the program went to the next curser. I logged out of console and logged in via Aqua.
Sorry to say the adress book still does not start up and the Icon is missing only the standard application Icon was available.
I look forward to your response

I was having the same trouble with the Address Book application. It simply would not launch. (The console application showed that it was returning an unable to open null error.) I tried getting rid of all of the preference files. That didn't work. I tried creating a new user and using that account. That didn't work. However, I was eventually able to get it running by restoring it completely using Pacifist. I first renamed the existing application to something else. I then installed the Address Book application from the original Mac OS X 10.2 installation disk (using Pacifist). I then updated it from the 10.2.4 update image and again from the 10.2.5 update image (again using Pacifist). At this point I tried running it and it still failed. However, after a reboot it ran just fine.

BTW To boot Mac OS X into single user mode (in order to run fsck) you must hold down command-s (not just s).
