When importing Vcards, Addressbook changes a Vcard's language into what I'm guessing is Chinese or Japanese (or maybe Korean?). It does this with all Vcards, irrespective of source. Stuff I've done:
- checked the International settings in System Prefs and deselected all Oriental languages
- "got info" for Addressbook and checked the language settings
- as a test, exported a card which looked fine in Addressbook (i.e., it was in English); when imported, sure enough, the card came in as Chinese
