Adobe Acrobar 5.0.5, OS X native or not??

I spoke to someone from Adobe yesterday and he said that Adobe Acrobat 5.0.5 was NOT Mac OS X native; yet, it is listed on VersionTracker.com as an OS X app. Huh? What gives? Anyone know what the deal is??

Acrobat 5.0 is not OS X native, but the 5.0.5 patch (not called an update, interestingly) is supposed to make it run natively.
Trouble is, the damn patch won't install on my system, and apparently a number of other folks have had the same problem.

But Adobe told me that Distiller--which is the app that **creates** PDF files--is NOT OS X native, only the 'reader' portion of Adobe is. In other words, why pay to upgrade to 5.0 from 4.0.5 when Reader 5.0 OS X is FREE (and Mac OS X can save files as PDFs anyway). I'm confused. I think I'll wait until Acrobat 6.0 (X).

I couldn't install Acrobat Reader 5 on my OSX (exclusive) iBook so I wrote an email to Adobe and they basically told me that the app itself is OSX native, but the installer is not (just what GadgetLover said). They said that I can boot into OS9, install Acrobat, then boot back into OSX and it will work fine.

Thats great, but I don't have 9.

The full version of Acrobat is a very powerful tool for those who like to work with PDF documents. I have played with the idea of upgrading to 5 since Adobe released 5.0.5, but seeing as my Irix and Solaris systems can only run Acrobat Reader 4 and my Rhapsody systems can only read version 3 formated pdf docs, having a native version of Acrobat 5 (without a native version of Distiller) doesn't seem worth the $99.00 at this point. Besides, all my native OS X apps can save docs as pdf anyway, and as was pointed out, I have Reader 5 for just reading.

Acrobat patch 5.0.5 DOES install and make acrobat run in os x, but distiller, as racer x i think poined out, is still a os 9 app, that said, u can make pdf documents easily in os x, choose, print (from ANY app) and choose preview, and BOOM!!! a pdf file for u to save, print, etc.
