Adobe Reader

Since I upgraded to the latest Safari version (7.0.1) I cannot read PDF's. They do not open in Safari. I just see a black page. Can anyone please suggest a solution?

Totally agree! Even the Browser plug-in, which was supposed to fix this, doesn't work. (Safari 5.1.10; 10.6.8)

I have Safari 7.1 and Adobe Acrobat Pro 11.0.06 which is the paid version of the latest version of Adobe Reader. My computer is a MacBook Pro 5,2 running OS X 10.9.1. Safari has absolutely no problems reading PDFs that I created using Adobe Distiller. I also have no problems with PDFs that I receive from my superiors created using Windows software.

I note that you have two computers listed in your signature. Does this problem exist on both computers or on only one?

Do you have Adobe PDF Viewer installed?
Go to Computer>Hard Drive>Library>Internet Plug-Ins

If you see the: AdobePDFViewer plugin in the Internet Plug-Ins folder, move it to the trash.

Restart your Mac and try opening a PDF file in Safari.

If that is not the case then:

In Terminal write: defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport -bool NO

This should allow you to open and view pdf’s in Safari.

Me neither Cheryl. I did both things as you suggested. Still no joy. [By the way, the problem is with the Mac Mini].

If I click on a link to a PDF file a new tab appears with the correct heading for the PDF file but the page is just black.

To answer MisterMe, I have no problems opening PDF files in Safari on the MacBook Pro.

In fact I have no problem opening up PDF files using Firefox on the Mac Mini either. However, I like Safari and tend to use that 95% of the time so it's bit of a pain that I can't see the PDF files using it.

Since neither one worked for both of us, Do I/we need to reverse the above?

If so, is the reverse of the terminal command the same with YES at the end?
