After log in the computer screen goes blank

Hi,
I had a power outage while the computer was running. Everything seemed normal, I logged in and instead of my desktop showing up after the standard leapard screen, it just showed a blank light blue screen!!!?? Does anyone know what happened?

running an aluminum imac first gen 2.4 ghz w/4 gb ram 10.5.4

Try booting from your Mac OS X Install CD/DVD and running a "repair disk" via "Disk Utility" (located under the "Utilities" menu).
