After wiping disc, can't install software!

Hi all,

So I am selling my Powerbook G4 12inch. At first, I did a clean install with my Tiger upgrade DVD. Then I read that it's best to "zero out" my hard drive. So I did that, using the 7 times option. Now I can't reinstall the system software from the Tiger DVD since it needs to see OS 10.3 installed already. Fair enough.

So I started up from the original PowerBook G4 install DVD, OS version 10.3.7...but for some reason I keep getting the message "Bundled Software Cannot Be Installed On The Computer." Huh?

I am quite certain this is the correct DVD. It says PowerBook G4 12inch Install Disc. I have zeroed out the hard drive a couple more times, plus partitioned using the 1 partition option.

I'm stumped.

Any suggestions?? Thanks all!

Your partition scheme should be fine, and won't cause the problem that you see now with the installer.
There's 4 different PowerBook G4 12-inch models, and the software that came with one model won't install on another model, even though it's a 12-inch.
Is your processor a 1.5 GHz G4? Then, that should be the correct installer set. If you have a 1.33 GHz, or less, then it's not the correct set.

Hmmm...ok. That must be it. Do you have any idea how / where I can purchase the correct installation disk for my Mac?

Thanks a lot for you help!

Here's some methods to get the right installer:
Contact AppleCare, or a Genius at an Apple store for a replacement set.
Or, purchase an OS X installer on the internet. Search on eBay, or Amazon.com
Look for a black label disk, which is the commercial OS X installer. _Don't_ purchase the grey disks, as you really don't know what you will get.
So, is your G4 processor slower than 1.5 GHz?

Hi,

Yeah, my processing speed is less than what you recommended.

I'm living in Berlin, so I gotta look here.

Is Mac OSX full install RETAIL what I'm looking for?

Also, you think it's a good idea to sell the Mac without the install disk? I can still offer the Tiger upgrade disk, just not the original disk.

The Tiger upgrade DVD is not of much use without the original disk.
Did you misplace yours? Or, did you purchase the PowerBook used? Maybe you could check where you purchased your PowerBook?
It would probably just be luck to find the right disk locally, but it certainly is available at the various internet sites that offer used (or new) install disks for sale.
Yes, the retail installer is the one that you want. The installer DVD will be black, with a big X across the label.

Hey,

I got the PowerBook used...and I have the installation disc here but it just won't let me install from it! Must be the wrong one when I bought it years ago off ebay.

I could also just get the retail version of Tiger (10.4) and install that right?
