Ahhh!!! The Hell Of Firewire!!!

Well Ed....

the problem is not the main disk. It's not the external hard drive....

it's the EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE ENCLOSURE!!!

That piece of crap enclosure short circuited my hard drive. Part of the circuit board on the back of the drive is CHARRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm gonna try and have a data recovery place I know fix it.... sigh....

funny how it worked on my G3 just one more time while it stopped working on my powerbook.... then it must've really got burnt after that.

Piece of crap enclosure.... I had to buy 3 of them at Fry's Electronics and keep returning them until I got one that works. (Too poor to buy a prepackaged external.) This 3rd one been working for months, and finally short circuited my drive.

sorry to hear this solrac. really sorry. i won't say much about fry's as most of my peripherals originated there. but i have learned to be somewhat careful what i buy there. taking the 2nd one back should have been a big clue. and of course, fry's probably put those you took back out on the floor again and reasoned that they would be fine with a pc. :rolleyes: when i bought my current maxtor drive, it was the only one that wasn't a return. there were about 15-20 with return stickers.

again, sorry it had to come to that. i hope you get back all your needed files.
 
well, the reason I bought 3 of them is because they were the only choice. It's the only product that was under $80 that was a firewire enclosure, period. Everything else was USB.

the data recovery guy said they can replace circuit boards on drives in house so maybe they can do it.... i hope...
