Air Travel with External FW HDs

I'd like to carry two of my external FW HDs with me when flying to Japan. I know you can air travel with powerbooks, but how about HDs (just HDs, no powerbooks with them)?
 
Should not be a problem. I'd have them in the hand baggage, and I assume you can demonstrate them that they work, in case they suspect.

How can you do that? Do they have Macs at the airport.
 
switch it on .. plug it to power outlet if necessary. if it sounds normal, seems to work, does not contain a bom etc there shouldn't be anything to worry.
