Airport & 10.2: Completely unable to access internet

For some reason, my Airport connectivity to the internet is lost ever since I stopped the Web serving service. I can't ping the default Gateway, I can't get email, can't get to the web, can't download crucially needed upgrades for over a month. But, it finds the wireless router.

I have removed the Network Preferences for the Airport card and reconfigured with no luck. Started/stopped/rebooted - everything short of reinstalling OS 10.2 (and all of the data and apps that go with it).

Can anybody offer assistance in diagnosing the reason for this? There must be 100MB of upgrade downloads by now that I haven't been able to access.

Thanks,

Robert Templeton

I used to have a problem like this; I remember it annoying me to no end.

What I did to solve it was go to the Network Preferences pane and configure the Network Port Configurations (under the 'Show:' pop-down menu).

Most likely what went on on your computer was that the internal modem and built-in Ethernet port configurations were turned on during the 10.2 install, and if they're in the port configuration field listed before the Airport port configuration, then those options are being tried before the Airport.

And if the internal modem and Ethernet aren't connected (which they aren't, in your case), then the computer just tries those over and over until, well, forever.

Solution? Delete the internal modem and Ethernet configurations from the port configuration fields if you're not going to use them, or just uncheck those two and move them to the bottom of the list so that Airport will be the only method attempted to connect to the internet.

If that doesn't work for you, though, come back and something else could be figured out.

I have a similar problem.

I'm not able to connect access the internet anymore using my Macbook Pro and Airport. It get an IP number, but I can't access other computers, the router or the internet. When plugged directly to the Ethernet port, it's OK.

Using Bootcamp and Vista (with Airport), everything is fine. I tried deleting every settings that I could on the Mac side, but sill no luck.

I resetted my D-Link router, again no luck. Tried to assign an IP to the Mac... no luck. Please help!!
