Airport + Airport Extreme

I have been debating picking up one of the two to replace the router in my house. We have both Mac's and PC's set up. Currently I'm using a linksys router that generally works but sometimes has a weak signal. Is the Airport or AP Extreme a big boost in wireless power? Does it work for PC's too?

The power difference will not be great, because the standard - and the FCC regulations - dictate exactly the maximum wattage the signal is allowed to have and almost all routers on the market use that wattage. However, using an external antenna can often improve matters greatly.

Also, if its just a question of extending the range say from one end of a building to another, you might want to add a new base station as a WDS node (Wireless Distribution System) that way it acts as a relay and simlpy extends the existing network.

And yes, Airport base stations work with PCs, as they use the 802.11g wireless standard.

Cool thanks. Also, which is the better buy. Should I go for the airport or the airport extreme? What are the major diff? Thinking of picking one up this week!

The difference is a "b" of" g" wifi signal. Also it depends on the year your Mac is made if it can take "g" (ie. extreme).
