Airport and Web Server

Dris

The Benevolent
Okay, I searched the forums and found some topics on this same thing, but none that I found had a solution.

The problem is accessing my webserver from inside the LAN created by the Airport. According to others, they can get to the server just fine.

I wouldn't have a problem using the LAN IP instead of the domain name, but I have more than one virtual server set up that require the domain to forward to the proper website.

Thus, I need to be able to access my websites from the LAN using their domain names.

I did read something earlier on setting up a custom DNS server, but I have zero experience doing that, and if another solution exists, I'd like to hear it.

Thanks!

Okay, nevermind...I figured out how to do it with NetInfo.

For those who don't know, here are the rough instructions:

1. Open the NetInfo Manager. You'll need an Administrator account to go further.
2. Unlock the authorization dealy-majig.
3. Go to "/machines" and create a new directory.
4. Change the value of "name" to the domain name of your server, for example, "example.dyndns.org".
5. Add the attribute "ip_address" and change its value to your server's private IP, eg, "10.0.1.2".
6. Repeat this process for any other virtual servers you may have set up.
7. Save your changes and test to make sure everything's in order.

Again, these are rough directions, and may be hard to follow if you've never done anything in NetInfo.

Anyways, that works for me. You may have problems if you do this on, for example, a laptop that you take from your home network to your work network. This is meant just for computers that you only intend for the same network. Otherwise you'll have to delete and recreate this NetInfo entry as necessary.

That's how I did it. Hope someone else finds this helpful.
