AirPort difficulties. Can anyone help?

I just purchased a dual ethernet AirPort base station.
My two computers are airport equipped (a Quicksilver
867 and an iBook 700). In terms of internet access
I have a cable modem (through Optimum Online).

I am trying to do essentially two things using AirPort.

1. allow both computers to be able to access the internet
wireless using the base as a router connected to the cable modem.

2. allow me to use the iBook to wirelessly access files and such
from the tower.

I have only been sucessful with #2, but with a minor problem.
If I go to connect to server from the go menu in finder, and
i go to appletalk... i can't see the other computer, although
if i know the ip address, i can enter it. is there a way to get
one computer to automatically recognize each other instead of
entering an ip address for it is dynamically set every time the
computer is shut down etc.

In terms of #1, is there something i'm missing?
The ISP i believe does provide the client id, i.p address
in addition to using DHCP. But I cant get either computer
to access the internet from the base if it is connected to the
modem.

Thanks in advance

System Preferences > Network > Airport

1. TCP/IP > "using DHCP" (choose)

2. AppleTalk, check the box "make Appletalk active"

check out the above in your Macs.

thanks for your response... i did all of that for
both computers and i can find the other
computer only if i manually enter the i.p.s at connect to server.

im doing anything else wrong?

out of curiosity what do your IP's look like? Do they look like they're assigned by your ISP or are they assigned by your base station?

In my powerbook airport setting IP address is given by DHCP. It is 10.0.1.7.
And my airport base station IP address is 12.228.xxx.xxx. I use AT&T cable modem for internet connection.

they start with 24.x.x.x and are assigned by the ISP

since i updated to 10.2, i've had no problems running
my iBook and accessing the internet over Airport.
