i want to share the music i have on my ibook and powerbook with each other. is it possible to do this this with my airport express? i dont have a base station or airtunes. but it seems i should be able to do this in a computer to computer network.

i did that. im connected through computer to computer network. and both itunes have sharing on and the shared stuff doesnt show up in my source menu. am i missing something?

Just to make sure we're getting what you're saying... you have 2 macs, each with airport. No hub or base station. In other words, neither can connect to the internet via Airport. Is this correct?

And when you say "my source menu" what exactly are you referring to? Shared iTunes Libraries will show up in iTunes as "Other_Computer's_Library" where "Other_Computer" will be replaced by the actual name of the user account on the other Mac.

On the elementary tip, make sure that both computers have "Look for shared music" checked in their iTunes preferences.

heres my set up. one powerbook, one ibook. both have airport but i use my super fancy(not) verizon wireless card for internet. i set up a computer to computer network thinking that itunes would then share the music. but it didnt. so i set up an internet sharing network from my powerbook and connected the two that way. now the ibook has internet access, a bonus kind of. at first the ibook could play the music off the powerbook but not the other way around...

i played with the firewall situation and it worked. thank you. now is there a way to control the speakers or is that an airtunes exclusive feature?
