The airport extreme card will connect to the old airport hub @ 11 Mbps.

If you got an airport extreme card will it work with an old airport hub?

Yes. What Apple computer are you going to insert the card to? Is it a recently released iMac, Powermac, or Powerbook? If not, the card cannot be used... not compatible.

Unless your system is "Airport Extreme Ready" you will need to use the older Airport card.

The Airport Extreme card will connect to the older Airport station, but not at the Extreme speed. It will connect using 802.11b, the same as the older Airport standard.
