I just bought an aiport extreme base station with the modem and usb port built in. My question is this. I want to be able to hook this up to my network as the main access point to the internet. I will have to use the modem as cable or dsl is not available in my neighborhood.
I currently have my TIVO hooked up through a linksys usb wireless card and my PB 12 through a Linksys 802.11b access point. I was originally using internet sharing on an XP computer for internet access but there were problems. To make the TIVO see the pictures and music on my cube with the Home media option, I had to be connected to the internet because it was looking for a dns server. So I had to change the setup and use IPNetShareX on my Cube and through it set up a caching only name server. This allowed me to be offline and still get to my pics and songs.
My question is this. Will the airport extreme have something built in like this for the dns or will i still need to set it up this way when the AE comes in?
