Good Morning
Is it possible for an Airport Card to overheat and disrupt the signal?I went Wireless in May and occassionally the signal goes away .Usually after a re-boot of the Airport Extreme and modem and a re-start the signal returns .However if my I-Mac is on all day like yesterday I was unable to return the signal til this morning after a 7 hour rest .

doesn't make sense to me. But is it possible for you to check it by touching the card?
How far is your accesspoint away? Any other devices that might radiate with the same frequency? I think airport extreme is at 2,4GHz. Microwave or wireless phones could interfere.

Hi Zammy
I guess I could take the lid off and touch the card . What would I look for? Heat? The Airport station is about 8 to 10 feet from my mac . Other interferences like the Microwave or phones could be coming from the apartment above me ? I'll ask her if she runs those devices at those times .

I would take a look at the contact between card and antenna and maybe heat as well, eventhough I am quite sure it has nothing to do with that.

Sorry I'm late in replying to your last e-mail . Just got home from work . A little tired . Tomorrow I will take a peak at the card and antenna . Thanks again for the suggestion .

After visiting the Apple Discussions I've discovered many more people having the same problems .They all seem to agree its in the transmission of the signal . An Apple problem?More up to date frimware?Check it out and let me have your opinion .

Sorry, I checked the forum but didn't reply, since I had no idea what might be the reason. But I saw another post in this forum about the same problem. Maybe it's really a thing that should get solved by a new firmware?
I am sorry for not being helpful anymore. Anyway, I would contact apple because of this. Maybe it is a hardware issue. Something like: antenna not connected properly to the card?!?
But let us know when you find out more about this. Some ppl might be very interested as well.

Hello Again
I just finished reading a fix on the Apple Discussion . Apple replaced the card on her Power Book . Its now working and Apple installed a program which gives a numerical reading or value of the signal .

Have you checked Apple's discussion lately??Wow , That dropped signal problem is becoming a nightmare . Knock on wood for me it has yet to appear again . Holding my breath!
