airport problems after leopard upgrade

hi... thanks in advance for your help.

i have a mac 1.8 ghz powerpc g5 with 512 mb ddr sdram. i just upgraded from mac osx 10.3 to 10.5.6. that is, i skipped tiger and went right to leopard.

after installing the operating system upgrade, i am having trouble with my airport/airtunes. i can connect to the internet without any problems. and it shows that the airport is on, at full strength, to my network. but it will not allow me to connect to my external speakers through itunes.

the speakers are not showing up on my itunes (8.02) and not giving me a choice between computer and speakers as it did before the upgrade.

when i go to system preferences and check under sound, output, it only gives me one choice for output--internal speakers, built in audio.

when i go to system preferences, network, it says airport connected.

when i go to the airport utility, and scan, it says that it is unable to find any wireless devices. i cannot access the settings or the base station while using the airport utility.

when i go to itunes, preferences, devices, "look for remote speakers connected with airtunes" is checked.

i have tried turning the airport on and off.

here's some additional info.
