Airport Will Not Scan on Tiger. Link Status Inactive

I am running 10.4.11 on an iMac g4, and am using an Airport Extreme card that has previously worked with no issues, but then was not being used for several months. I remember the last time I tried connecting wirelessly, it was unable to pick up any networks, but I didn't look into it any further at the time and just connected with ethernet as usual. I recently moved home, and I am still getting the same problem.

The airport symbol appears, turns on, but it does not appear to be scanning for anything at all, no networks appear on the list. I have entered in the wireless network details into the preferred networks list and it still does not appear. When I try "other" I just get an error message.

My two housemates are having no issues on their PCs and they can also detect other wireless networks in the area.

I got the following info from system profiler:

AirPort Card Information:

Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme
Wireless Card Locale: Worldwide
Wireless Card Firmware Version: 405.1 (3.90.34.0.p18)
Current Wireless Network: wireless network not available

and the following from Network Utility (screenshot as it won't let me copy and paste it all at once): http://i913.photobucket.com/albums/ac336/astraljazz/Picture1-1.jpg

I've done a lot of searching for the solution and the only thing that came close was when I found a few threads mentioning the gear wheel icon in the Network system prefs having the option to make the status active, but I assume this gear wheel is only found in the newer operating systems as it is nowhere to be seen.

It's starting to really bug me, there doesn't seem to be any apparent reason for it not working... and if I have to listen to any more of my friends saying "that will teach you for buying a mac" I might go crazy...

Oh, and I'm not sure if this makes a difference, but I was using an Airport base station in my last house, and I am now using a router provided by Virgin Media, but as I said, I was still having the problem in my old house, with the Airtport base station.

Any help would be vastly appreciated.

Have you tried a different airport card? Also try logging in as a different user and see if the problem continues.I also have a G4 imac that had this same symptom a while back.It finally went away after I ran Onyx and all its repair utilities.I was ready to tear my hair out at that point!

Or, simply try reseating your present Airport Extreme card, and the antenna connector. It's very easy to get at.
Just remove the metal cover on the bottom of your iMac base - 4 small screws that you simply loosen, you can't lose them.
Tug out the airport card, and push firmly back in the slot. Make sure the antenna wire is firmly connected. Replace the bottom cover.

oh yes, forgot to mention i had already tried taking out and reinserting the airport card and still no luck :(

i don't have access to another card atm but could probably ask a friend for a lend of theirs or something. i will try running onyx too and see if that helps.. not enough space left to create another user profile i am pretty sure.
