Alias and Symbolic link

Can anyone tell me where can i find the information about an alias original path? (created in Finder, not a Symbolic link created in the terminal)
 
If you do a search on this site, you'll find lots of general discussions about this. The jist is that aliases store path info int he Resource Fork. You can find that using the old OS 9 res edit.

I remember somone also giving some info on accessing (reading/writing) this via the command line, but I could not dig up that post...
