All FONTS loading at start-up in OSX and other apps

Primarily working in graphics applications (Illustrator, Photoshop), all my 2000+ fonts load when opening the programs. In Adobe Illustrator 10, for example, I get the typical start-up screen and when it "Reads fonts..." the application halts while scanning my system for ALL my fonts. This usually takes 7-8 minutes just to open the application and it also takes the OS about that long to boot, too.

I am on a 400Mhz G4 w/768MB RAM, MAC OS 10.2.6. I have not touched any of Mac OS X's Fonts folders as I use Extensis Suitcase 10.2 to manage my fonts, which I keep in a completely different folder on my hard drive. In fact, I've even taken Suitcase off of my system to see if that was it, but no. So, I don't think Suitcase is the problem.

I've been living with this problem for about a month and I can't take it anymore. I've called Apple and all they said was to do an "archive and install" of the OS, but I still ended up with the same problem.

Has anyone ever heard of this problem of the system wanting to search their hard drive for all fonts? Please help me! I'd appreciate any suggestions you think may help. Thanks!

You might want to delete the archived system, to get rid of any fonts that are still saved there.

I restarted after deleting all the Previous Systems (great suggestion), but still have the same problem.

Maybe I just need to back-up everything and reinstall the OS? That would suck...

I'll keep playing around to see what I come up with. Thanks again for your time.
