i want to use my mini as basicly a wireless reciver to my xbox, but when it ( the 360) tries to acquire an ip address, it fails, is it because it's getting the same ip as my mini and they both cant be on the network? i have the ethernet connection in my sharing options on, (share connection from: airport...share connections to computers using: ethernet) but im not exactly a networking wiz and i dont know how i'd even start to fix it...any help?

It sounds like you've configured the Mac correctly. How are they connected? The Mac should be directly connected to the Xbox, or connected though a switch that is not connected to another router.

Have you got a cross over cable or standard network cable between the xbox 360 and Mac mini.(not sure if the xbox 360 will auto configure the socket some switches do but most pc network cards don't and require a cross over cable if linking two PC's direct together with no hub or switch between).
This may be why your Xbox 360 is not defaulting to a 192.168.1.x ip address off the mac mini. But if you dont have a cross over cable or the xbox does not auto switch (turn the network cable into a crossover cable) then you will not get this working.Unless you but a hub between the two devices and then you could use two standard patch cables then.

Once you know you have the correct cabling .Mac network sharing should I suspect work like windows XP and your Xbox should default to a 192.168.1.X address. (Sorry guessing here as have never shared internet via Mac OSX only Win XP).Check to see if the Xbox gets an ip.See if you can ping it from the mac mini. This will confirm the network connection (cable and cards) between the two device' are working.
