I was recommended a typing utility to take notes in class (I have the penemanship of a 5 year old, or of a doctor).
I was specifically recommended an AlphaSmart, and it shipped in *1* day!
Basically it's a keyboard with a comparatively small display attached to the top, and works only as a portable typewriter: just what I needed since I've got an iMac TFT at home and have configured all my network services so I never need to take files with me, I don't need a laptop.
The really cool idea: you can download the text to ANY computer without the need for drivers. How? Well, it just plugs into any USB-compatible computer and sends the keystrokes of the text file as a normal keyboard would! How ingenious is that! They've got some utilities for OS Classic for updating the system and putting text ONTO the AS3000, but the X ones aren't out yet (but they're planned).
The other really cool feature: 700 hours of battery life on 3 AAs!!! That's almost an entire year of lectures! I want my iPod to do that hehe...
And if you really want to splurge, the Dana is PalmOS (too much $$$ for my scottish blood tho )
The only drawback: no baclkight and the USB connector is incompatible (power and design) for a Kensington USB Flylight (which I've got). Oh well...
