Aluminum keyboard issues with F command keys

Hello,

The top row of F control keys on our aluminum keyboard don't seem to be functioning correctly. For instance:

When we press the volume up the widget screen pops up.
When we press the volume down button, the windows shift to the edge of the screen.
When we hit the mute button, multiple windows pop up.

You get the picture, it's very odd. None of the F command keys appear to be working as they're supposed to, while other keys seem to be perfectly fine. We've tried two keyboards and we get the same issue with both. Could this be a firmware issue?

Many thanks for any help you can provide.

No, it's a software setting.
Your Function keys are reversed (using those keys gives the function, and not the symbol showing on the key) and is just a setting in your system. You can get the correct f-keys to work by holding the fn key (under the f13 key) at the same time as you press a function key.
Or, reverse those by going to your System Preferences, then the Keyboard pref pane.
UNCHECK the box "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys"
