Have you ever checked your USB debugger , maybe it wasn't turned on .

The USB debugger is on your phone. It allows your phone to transfer data, but it also allows other apps to transfer data as well.

Do you have the update version of Andriod File Transfer? Did you turn off your phone, then turn it on, start up Andriod File transfer, then connect your phone?
