Downloaded a file yesterday that froose my system (screen faded). Can't seem to get rid of this file because it is in use by a task (?).

I remember there was a file-crushing tool in the old days, is there an OSX tool for these annoying files? Or maybe another option to get rid of the file in the UNIX side?

Anyone?

What is this you downloaded?

Did it freeze when you downloaded it? Or after installing?

Try OS 9. Try booting in 9 and removing it.

Or, reboot while holding Shift. In X when you log in it will skip certain files.

I downloaded the Rhapsodized interface makeover. System frooze on my whilst downloading was near completion (maybe even whilst unstuffing, does that automaticly after downloading) . Booting in 9 does not work because the OSX harddisk does not boot in 9 (made it that way so files in 9 don't link to OSX apps).

Tried to boot with the shift button, but did not work.

Maybe there is some functionality to be found in the TOP function in the terminal?

You could try booting into single user mode and then deleting the file.

Top won't help you though, all it does is display information.

It worked! Forcedelete deleted the file in a breeze. It looks for the unix-path and deletes the file as rootuser.
