Anyone had experience with the Apple Store?

I wasn't sure where to put it, but since it is hardware related, here it is!

anyway, I ordered a 17" imac on the 2nd of August. i was told it would ship in 3 days. 2 weeks later, i gave up and cancelled the order. i put some more pennies together and ordered the dual 867 with an added superdrive and upgraded the card to the ATI 9000. it took three days for me to get a confirmation letter (i ordered on saturday, i got the confirmation on Wednesday... that's three business days) that said i placed the order on the 21st (wednesday). that kind of irked me considering i'm moving to college without a computer now. whatever. fine. i can wait. it said it would ship in 5 days. what gets me, though, is that it still says it's "reviewing my order" as opposed to "assembling" or something like that. what's going on? i got a second confirmation a couple of days ago, reminding me of what i ordered.
after ordering a computer on the 2nd and still being without one (i'm using the family's pc right now.. ick) i'm getting antsy. can someone let me know what's going on with them and how things work ('reviewing the order' 'building your computer' etc) and if anyone's had good or bad experiences with them?

when I bought jaguar, it stayed on step 1/2 the whole time until the day it shipped (Aug 23, Friday) where it was at step 5.

That's odd. I've never had that problem. In fact, my Macs and related items always arrived earlier. My iBook had upgraded shipping, same with my iMac. Jaguar got upgraded to some expensive saturday overnight (I ordered it 8-23 and got it 8-24 10:13 AM).

It could be that there are many orders for the newer iMac and PowerMac, and so you may just have to wait. But, I'm sure it will be well worth it.

We're waiting on our Dual 1Ghz for the office...

It's seems to simply be a run on supply, especially when customizing them…

If you want fast either DON’T customize it or get it elsewhere than the online Apple Store.

You can still get it online – like at ClubMac or MacMall (no customization tho) - that might be faster since that’s probably where Apple’s online store’s stock went! Heh

Yeah, same here. No problems on shipping an iMac FP I ordered last month. I just do not like the waiting anyway so my last two orders, a PowerMac G4 800 and a new PowerMac dual 867 have been from the local Apple Store.
Any time you customize you are looking at delays. And if there aren't many of them around, I think it'll mean retail customers come first.

Also remember, they are getting slammed right now since they just released new machines, 10.2, new ipods, etc. It may take longer, but it will be worth the wait.

If you want to know exactly where it is on the production line, call a phone rep. They will let you know if there are any problems with the order, credit card company etc.
