Anyone tested the new Beta Norton Utilities version?

Hi folx!
Im very eager to get my hands on Norton Utilities working for OSX and it looks like they are working on it since the Beta version is out for anyone to download. Since working on a Beta version of such an application is rather risky, I take it not many have tryed it. Still, Im curious of any comments on it by the ones who perhaps have tryed it out. Found any bugs? What kind?...The effect too disasterous? Or managable?
Any comments of the application are welcome :)

If you approach it right beta testing stuff isn't "dangerous." it's like chemistry class. Don't do stupid or risky things with something that can kill you, and you'll be fine. Anywho, I got the beta and tried it out. It's the same thing as it was for OS 9, only less tools and it can't see that I have NAV installed. I would also like to note that I have been beta testing for various companies for several years. Most recently was Westlake Interactive, and soon for MacSoft. You may have heard of such titles as The Sims, Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force, Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force Expansion Pack, Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2, The Sims House Party, Age of Empires II, and several others. Well, you're welcome.:D No, I can't tell you what I am working on so don't ask like everyone else on Earth does.

Testuser doesn't test stuff? :D I used to beta test for Berkley systems - You Don't Know Jack series and the After Dark screen savers. I'd like to beta test for Westlake/MacSoft. How do I sign up?

Dear Testuser, if I will post any other questions again Ill take your advice on not posting in several forums like you noted.
As for my question, I simply wanted some thoughts on the Norton Utilities Beta version by anyone who may have tryed it, thats all.
If somebody hasnt or wont test the Beta version (for whatever reasons) then theres no use in responding, is there. I have no interest in views about who is a fool or not. Not very keen on namecalling, you see ;) Its so pointless.

Have a nice weekend!

Testuser,

I totally agree on your thoughts about being precotious when it comes to testing "unfinished" versions of a software. Its not just to download without thinking first. Aspecially one thats handling such vital things as repairing, clean-ups and scannings of a hd. On that said, I guess we´re all waiting for a good "cleaning application" to surface for OSX. However, I might insert here that there IS yet another one that has been out there for a few months and I have it. Its called Drive 10. Ive used it for a while and it seems rather ok but it still feels like it lacks something. It scanns well and reports/repairs on findings, yet I get the notion that its not all that powerful. That it doesnt "sweep" the hd as deep as it should. Why? Well, after scanning with Drive 10 some problems with some files still remain. Problems that an "allround" cleaning application should notice.

Best regards,
Gambit

I didn't test it by myself, but I had problems with an UC I finallly send back to my Apple dealer. After many tries with "classic" apps to save my HD, without success, he finally decided to run the norton beta from a CD. The beta couldn't see the second physical HD, but has worked on the first, claiming succes at the end. The tech rebooted the G4, without succes, and this time the OSX partition was impossible to find at startup... The tech thinks that the way Norton works on disks is not 100% supported by OSX.
He did the following experience : run Norton beta on a HD with a 10.1.2. installed, and then run a speeddisk otpimization sequence. Result : 0% fragmentation. Reboot. A long checking drive sequence. Then he run a SpeedDisk diagnostic. result : 1,43 % frag. It seems that OSX had replace files in a another way.

My HD ? It has to be replaced anyway.
My opinion ? I will wait for a native version of Diswarrior and TechTool. NUM has always bored me.

Hmmm, thats interesting.
Ive only used Norton when it came to virus searching. Never Norton Utilities. Usually what I have read when comparisons have been made between different Utilities (on various occations in different Mac magazines), Norton most always got the best marks in performance.
Tho, when it comes to Nortons last tryout of Utilities...its still a Beta test version. The final result?...he who lives will see, I guess.
As for the virus applications Im still waiting for a good OSX sharp one. Ive installed OSX without OS9 now so, the carbon update of Norton is out of reach for me (unless i install all the OS´s over again and thats pretty tiresom).

Gambit:)

Testuser,
Iread the thread and yes, this is why Im quite ambivalent to try it out, however eager I am. Even if I have backups. Im not used to the Terminal either so, if my hd started to give me trouble Id use 1/3 of the "fixing time" having a nervous breakdown:D
