anyway to turn off the cropping of large file names?

I have to transfer files from my pc to my powerbook, but OSX seems to be trimming all my long file names, which is not good...

Anyway to turn this 'feature' off?
 
OS X does support long filenames, and shouldn't trim them itself. Perhaps the method which you use to transfer files is doing the trimming? Try a different protocol or something.
 
most likely it is the method...

i know when i transfer things via ftp off my mac that have long file names they get snipped by my ftp program...

in which method are you transfering the files?
