Apple Bluetooth Keyboard Losing Connection

Is there any reason that my keyboard would keep losing its connection? I have to remove the batteries for the connection to come back? Is this a sign of dead batteries or someting else?

You should find a battery level indicator checking on bluetooth in system preferences..

it shows full. So I guess it is not battery related?

Is there any particular time that the keyboard loses connection, like when the computer goes to sleep, or does it happen randomly? How far away from the computer is the keyboard situated?

I am trying to remember what I am doing when it happens. The keyboard is only a couple of feet from the box. It seems that I am using the keyboard; I stop and I believe I am plugging or unplugging (cant remember) a firewire drive. Then I go back to type something and it stops working.
