apple dvd player problem

Hi Guys...

I need your help again. Suddenly Apple DVD player started producing an error message and quit. It says "serious error has occured (unknown error)" something like that. It was working just fine..

I guess that it started to happen after I upgrade the system (Power Book G4 15") to 10.2.8.

Does anybody have similar problems?
How would I fix it?

Thank you ,

/Applications/Utilities/Console

then from File menu, Open Log and select the one that includes in the name the "DVD"

I don't see any DVD crash log file.
I searched all the files containing DVD but I still don't see any crash file. I deleted the "pref" file to see if it is going to help but it did not. Same problem persists:
"DVD player encountered a serious error."
(Unknown error: xxxxxxxxx)

Did you search by filename or by content? Push Cmd-F to bring up the advanced search option, and search by content for "DVD."

Yes. I did filename search. Nothing about "crash" came out. It is very weird.

I booted the powerbook in 9.2 and 9.2 apple dvd player works fine.

Is it possible to re-install dvd player alone separately from jaguar installation cd?

I deleted the dvd player and re-installed it with Pacifist. I get the same error message.

I checked again with console. On console.log, I see this message:
"2003-10-17 14:47:14.401 DVD Player[717] CFLog (21): Cannot find executable for CFBundle 0x20f1890 </System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/HIServices.framework> (not loaded)"

What does this mean? What do I do to fix it?

That's really strange. I've never heard of this happening to anyone. Let us know if you get it fixed!

By the way, The following is also a part of the error message but didn't show above.

"/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/HIServices.framework"

(How do I attach an image to this post? I tried to attach the image of the error message but failed...)

A framework is missing? And you reinstalled the DVD package? That's strange...have you tried running DiscUtility to see what it comes up with?

I should run DiscUtility? I will try and see what happens...

By the way, I still see the directory HIServices.framework under System directory.

I am encountering the same exact message when I try to access the DVD player. I did a reinstall and same thing occurs. I am seeing everything yokim is experiencing over here.

Weird! I wonder if it was a recent update, as DVD player was working about 4 weeks ago (last time I used it).

So, I am not alone with this problem. Any ideas on why this is happening?

I was very surprised to see this error first time. (I was trying to watch a movie on the plane.) Eventually, I had to boot my TiPB in 9.2 to watch the movie...

Wow, Thanks Bob.

That solved the problem. I now remember installing the developer tool some time ago (for no reason).

Thanks!
