Apple forgets Pages and Keynote

ACTUALLY, the ad says "the Mac just comes with [...] and iWork, the stuff you need...". And this, imho, is false advertising, because currently, you only get a demo-version of iWork. He mumbles it, of course. But maybe this ad just looks into the future, where a full iWork version comes for free with every new Mac? :) :) :)

EDIT: Woops, sorry. He mumbles "iWeb", of course. Forget what I just said.

But to a switcher who doesn't know what iLife is about, might think iWork is part of it simply because it starts with an 'i' and is installed on the Mac, and of course, quicktime not being able to do full screen and stuff... they might feel, cheated.

Well, yeah, but such is life. There are workarounds for the fullscreen thing with Quicktime, and iWork _might_ become a free add-on for Mac OS X or new Macs. At least there was a rumour prior to MWSF about that.

And I take "might" very seriously - I have been using Pages for sometime now, and got rid of MS Office for Mac because of it; and with the free opensource alternatives like Oo_O, Apple should really push iWork on new Macs for free... but there is still a certain level of doubts in it...

I use Nice Player. Works really well, just for some reason won't stay in the background after going-in-to and quitting fullscreen mode.

and omnigraffle and comic life... (OK, comic life is full version, but it still annoys me. i don't want it, so don't install it without asking)

Mac's aren't much better in this regard, I agree. Though I will say, at least when you re-install OS X it allows you to install without bundled software, which is more than I can say for most PC manufacturers.

funny ad tho :D

Do all these iApps load on startup? Do they jump out at you and ask you to buy the full version when you're not using them?

There is a big difference with the junk you get on a new PC and the stuff that comes by default on a new Mac. Sure, you get MS Office trial, iWork trial, etc. They just sit on your hard drive and don't do suck up your system resources. Contrast that with all the junk that gets loaded up on a Windows machine (just look at the system tray) and you'll see that it's different on a Mac.
