apple-macosx browser icon restore

I dragged the icon for apple-mac osx browser ( grey with an A on what looks like a spring ) onto my desktop and a cloud of dust by accident and now just can't find how to reinstall or reactivate. Thanks for any suggestions, Rick
 
I'll assume you mean Safari, but the same would apply to any application, browser or otherwise.

To put an icon (actually an alias) into the dock, simply click & hold on the application and drag it to the dock. It will place the alias there without actually moving the application.

You already found out how to remove the alias.

You can also rearrange the aliases by clicking & holding and move to location deasired.
 
Thanks, got it, I got myself nuts over it so I was in the truest sense of the phrase " dumbfounded " Couldn't be any simpler. Thanks again, Rick
