Apple Music!

lol. I remember this! When MacAddict magazine was in its fledgling stages, they had a competition for best Mac art, sounds, and stuff like that, and the winning stuff was distributed on the MacAddict CD.... and this won for something in the audio category! lol. Coolest thing ever.
 
what happened to all those mac noises? i miss the quack and the beep and i can't even remember their names... but i remember the sound control panel and messing around with it in system 7 and 8 :)

They are still there. Open up any classic application and then go to the Sound Control Panel from the multi-colored Apple menu.

In OS 9 these sound files were actually within the System Folder:System. It was a weird thing. It acted like a folder when you double-clicked it from the Finder, but the OS X Finder won't do it...

If you boot back into OS 9 you can do this and the drag the files to somewhere elese on your drive. To make them work with OS X you need to convert them to SND files to AIFF.

The OS X equivelents are in /System/Library/Sounds...
