Apple Spreadsheet words in alphabetical order?

I'm using the spreadsheet for Appleworks 6.2.9. I'd like to set it up so that the names in a column get put in alphabetical order even if I don't type them in that way. Is there a way to do that with Apple spreadsheets? I typed in the word "alphabetical" from the "Help" in the menu but didn't find anything.
