So, this morning, i get an email from Apple called "Thank you for another great year", and with it a £20 coupon for orders at the apple store. It may seem like a cynical marketing trick, especially since it is only on orders of £199 and over, but nonetheless, it definitely helps keep my opinion of Apple high. It also works, I am a student, and having bought Panther from the Education Store, i received a £15 voucher by email, and almost immediately went and bought a Lacie drive from them, which i had been intending to buy from somewhere else.
These discounts cost Apple little, but even being aware of their marketing value, they help me feel good about being part of the Mac community. Its not like they are pretending that they don't benefit from the plan, we both benefit, so it has to be a good thing.
I read lots of gripes about Apple, slow updates to hardware and software, failure to address issues users are concerned about, and i agree with many of them, but it still by far the best computer company to be involved with. Though my PC experience is blessedly small, I don't hear about Dell or their ilk sending people friendly thank you emails and money off vouchers.
Go Apple!
