Apple System Profiler in OSX

Hi

I have posted this question on many forums but no one seems to know the answer, please does anyone know in what order the System Profiler Applications are in OSX10.1.4. They seem to be in alpha order for 20 or so apps then it starts again in alpha order for another 20 or so apps and so on and on and on, this makes it almost impossible to find anything. David Pogue says in his book that is is now better than ever!!!!!!!!! Thanks.

It looks like it might be in alpha order, but grouped by directories (everything in Applications is in order, then everything in Applications/Utilities, etc.).

You could use Sherlock to find applications only, then sort Sherlock's list however you like.

I assume you're having trouble with the Sherlock part of it?

In Sherlock, select "Applications" from the "Custom" popup menu. Make sure the hard disk that you want to search is selected (not your home directory), and press Enter. This will give you a list of every program that you have on that disk.

Mind if I ask what you are trying to do?

I was used to using it in other OS's for finding version #s which did not always appear in get info. So I assumed the ASP was in the same order in OSX, but no. I do however like the sub-menus. This is not a matter of major importance, but it has become an obsession. Why is it in the order it is. I assumed that it was probably in the order you said. Why bother to put in all this information since it is of almost no use except for the first 2 headings "System Profile and Devices and Volumes". Frameworks, Extensions and Applications all seem to be in the same order.. Thanks again.
