Apple to be debt-free

Yeah, read that too. Very good for Apple. The debt to equity ratio will be really nice. However, that is going to be a negative effect on Q2 earning reports, since it cuts into Apples cash.

Yes, Apple's going debt-free cuz I spent so much $$$ on them this past year, iTMS, Panther, iLife04, .Mac, assorted iPod and laptop accessories, a new battery for my old clamshell and my new G4 iBook, among other things. :)

You and me both.

It might be a bit negative on their earnings report (though they still made $68 million in profits regardless of what they do with their cash cache), but it will look a lot better if they aren't in debt.

From a financial stand point I really don't see the point. There is nothing wrong with that debt. Nearly every company, albeit Microsoft, has debt. Should they ever need to aquire more debt later it may have a larger negative effect for them to go from no debt to having debt rather than having some debt to having a bit more.

Although Phil Schiller is probably a much smarter guy than myself, afterall he's CFO of Apple not me. So woot, woot! Apple's Debt Free! (anyone here ever listen to Dave Ramsey? FREEDOM!!!!.....now if they could only buy MSFT out of the company.) :)
