Apple to buy A|W?

Macrumors.com has some sketchy news about Alias|Wavefront that it's using to hint at Apple purchasing Alias|Wavefront from SGI.

Personally I would love to see this happen. Just think they would provide better support for Maya on the Mac, Maybe port Studio Tools (I can only dream), and perhaps create a low end 3D app using the technology they acquire. Being a Designer I know how much of a need there is for a low-end 3D app (would love one that could save out EPSs and SWFs.)

I'm not trying to validate this rumor. I just like to believe it's true.

it seems to me that apple is really trying to take over hollywood, i think if they take control of all the visual arts area's then there market share will increase just because of shear cool software built especialy for osx.

Seems that the announcement was that A|W is dropping the price of Maya to $2,000.
That is almost better.
