The next-generation Macs will be based on the IBM 970. There is absolutely no chance Apple will switch to Intel processors for several reasons.
- Endian issues are a major bitch for developers.
- Intel processors are horrible energy-hogs.
- Intel processors are bloated by legacy cruft - just in case you need to run your c.1981 DOS apps - that would only waste space in a Mac.
- The IBM 970 solves the memory BUS bottleneck in ways the Intel chips so far have not, and Mac-users like memory bandwidth.
- Apple pays close attention to what John Dvorak says, because doing the opposite always leads to good results.
