Apple Wireless Keyboard (1G) Control key dead

My first generation aluminum Apple Wireless Keyboard's Control key seems to have died. All other keys work fine. For the time being, I've swapped Control and Caps Lock, but the shortcuts for which I use Control are hard to key with Caps Lock, so I'm likely to replace this nearly three-year-old device.

Just wondering if anyone's come across anything like this before. Nothing sticky about the key. Keyboard's practically been garage-kept.
 
Are both the left and right control keys dead?
I know - it's hard to retrain muscle memory, eh?

Do you need a keypad?
Have you considered the short USB keyboard?
