application preferences files?

ok, so in os9 i could go to the system folder and delete an applications pref. file to reset it to defaults. where do they hide those puppies in osx10.3.7? any ideas?

Couldn't figure it out. VLC 0.7 worked fine but 0.8.1 didn't. I deleted the pref file as (above) and all is well.
