applications keep opening up

Ive got a problem where I find some of my applications to start up automatically.

I usually find this to happen If the computer isn't used for 30mins to an hour.

I left the computer the other day and it opened up address book, iPhoto and a few others but I didn't think anything of it. I again left my mac mini for about an hour today and have come back and noticed address book, mail, calender, word and stickies opened up in the dock. The worst bit about it is that all my stickies have been deleted with some important information.

Has anyone come across this problem before?

Check "Login Items" in the Accounts section of system preferences. Verify that no one else is using your computer, locally or remotely (check in the Sharing pane that Remote Access is off).
