Are Developer Tools Necessary?

I'm not planning on writing applications, and it's unlikely I'll compile any in terminal. So is there any other reason for me to install the Developer Tools?

I bought the retail version of 10.1 which comes with the disk. The only thing I ever compiled in MacOS were with AppleScript or RealBasic, and I'm not planning on much more except for PHP, SQL and maybe some Perl for Web development.

What's the advantage of the Developer Tools?

If you want to write cocoa or carbon apps, or edit resources of cocoa apps then the dev tools are needed. I think it also provices C compuiles as well.

Developer tools are for, um... developers. If you don't know why you need them, then you don't need them. They don't add "secret speed boosts", they're just applications for developing new applications.
