Asking for free image capturing device for mac OS

I am Tsegaye from Finland, Sodankyla Geophysical observatory. I am using mac os, however, I face difficulties in using my image capturing device. When I click and open it from my application folder, I get a message that says there is no image capturing device connected. Please help me in getting free image capturing device for my mac now.

Tsegaye,

Image capture devices include digital scanners and cameras. You might know a friend or family member who is willing to pass on a used device to you. New ones are somewhat expensive for the college students who frequent this forum. You cannot expect a stranger to give you a camera or scanner.
 
At a geophysical observatory?
What type of images will you need to capture? Are they normal photographic or digital images? Or, other types of data? Or just capturing images that you have downloaded through the internet?
Can you tell us what type of hardware that you need to use? And what do you have now?
