Assigning a program to start automatically

Hi All,

I'm a fairly recent convert to Mac (9 months or so) and i'm very keen to get stuck in and learn more about my system. My problem concerns dvd ripping:

I want to assign a specific program (mac the ripper) to open automatically when I insert a dvd. At the moment the dvd player opens automatically and I cannot see how to modify this?

Also, is there any way to assign Toast to open whenever a blank dvd is inserted?

I have a MAC powerbook G4 running OSX

Many thanks.

01. Select the 'Apple, System Preferences...' menu item. The 'System Preferences' window will appear.
02. Click once on the 'CD & DVDs' utility icon button.
03. From the 'When you insert a blank DVD:' pop up menu, select the 'Open other application' menu item. A drop down browse (open) sheet will appear.
04. Navigate to, and select, 'Roxio Toast'; then click the 'Choose' button.
05. From the 'When you insert a video DVD:' pop up menu, select the 'Open other application' menu item. A drop down browse (open) sheet will appear.
06. Navigate to, and select, 'MacTheRipper; then click the 'Choose' button.
07. Close the 'System Preferences' window, via the 'red' jelly bean crayola crayon 'close' button.

Thank you so much guys. Works perfectly now, just how I want it. I can't believe how simple that was! I'm such a mac noob, but hopefully that will change over time.

Thanks Barhar for your excellent instructions. I really appreciate you taking the time, and i'll be sure to use this forum in the future...
