Atypical Powerbook G4 RAM issue.

My Powerbook seems to be very fickle lately.
When Apple supplied RAM is installed in my Powerbook it refuses to boot properly. The startup chime will sound normally but the screen will not turn on, nor will the hard drive spin up.

Here's the tricky part.
When I swap my RAM with my roommates HP brand laptop everything magically works fine. His laptop is capable of booting with my 512mb Apple RAM and my Powerbook works perfectly with his two 256MB HP RAM modules. My Powerbook will also boot properly with one 256 HP module in the lower RAM bay and my Apple 512MB in the upper. If the two switch places it fails to boot with the same symptoms as described above.

What could be my problem? My Powerbook G4 is manufactured outside of the Apple lower RAM slot recall dates. All RAM modules mentioned are of Apple specifications for my computer, 333MHz PC2700 DDR SDRAM 200 Pin. Resetting the PMU has no effect and I am also unable to reset the PRAM when these problems are present.

Help is very appreciated. :D
