audio record/play problems on powerbook g4

I get no sound on g4 when g4 is connected to stereo mic out and control input panel is set "audio line in"

also no sound on stereo when g4 earphone out is connected to aux line in stereo

I am using appropriate cables
the earphones work on both stereo and g4
I can record using the built in mike on g4 but want to recieve and send sound to/from stereo

I 'think' i had something similar. I ran my turntables into and out of my powerbook to make recordings a play through the line out.
As in your situ got nothing.
I was told you have to download some software in order that the sound will run freely between the line in/out. This was a while ago and since then have reinstalled my os so don't have the software name.
