.avi to .mpg

what?
I've got some short .avi movies (~5mb) from a digi-cam and would like to onvert em to .mpg this should be possile, so if anyone knows of any proggys to do that (even command line proggys would do) please name them here :)

Quicktime Player Pro can send an movie file to an AVI, so if it can open an AVI, it should be able to export it as MPEG (sorry, don't have any AVI's available to test this with right now).
 
as long as the original avi codec is supported in qtime pro, you can do it. otherwise, it has to be converted first.
 
there are a few things you should get, one is DivX Doctor II which is great at converting avi to mov's and also fixes a lot of AVi that dont play right in quicktime.

then you also should throw some DivX components into your Library/Quicktime folder.

tnx for the links, though I never had problems watching any avis yet, using MPlayer

and yes, the quicktime convert worked :)
