background app

I've looked all around the net for information on how to "steal" one of the behaviors of iTunes. When iTunes is in the background, you can still use its controls without bringing it to the foreground. I need this feature in my app, not with controls, but with a "mouse-in-rect" function. That is, I don't want to bring the application to the foreground when clicked. But I still need to be able to bring it to the foreground when I want to.

I know that iTunes is actually a Carbon application, and I need this to be in Cocoa.

I'm using a window with an alpha channel that floats above everything on the screen (This might complicate thing, I don't know).

Someone might be able to help me...!

You can query the mouse location directly. What exactly are you trying to receive, if not mouse clicks?
